ECONOMY

Spain, one of the main European economies, has consistently outperformed its European counterparts over the last five years, in pre-pandemic circumstances.

With a GDP of 1,200 million dollars, Spain is the 4th largest economy in the EU -except for the United Kingdom- and the 14th largest in the world.

Spain is the 13th recipient of foreign investment in the world.

TAXES

Spain’s corporate tax rate within the Eurozone is moderate (25%) and tax incentives and exemptions can reduce the effective tax rate to around 20%.

Up to 42% discount on Corporate Tax for R&D&i activities.

In the event of insufficient personal income tax, Spanish regulations allow unused tax credits to be transferred to R&D&i investments.

Spain is a platform for international business and investment opportunities. The Spanish tax system is advantageous for international companies that can benefit from the 94 double taxation agreements signed by Spain and currently in force, particularly with Latin American countries.
 
The “participation exemption” scheme benefits international companies. Dividends and capital gains obtained from the transfer of shares of subsidiaries not resident in Spain are exempt from taxation.

Spain has a special tax regime for holding companies (“Spanish Holding Companies” -ETVE) that allows dividends and capital gains from the transfer of shares of subsidiaries to be exempt from taxation.

In Spain there is a fiscal neutrality regime for business restructuring operations, so that mergers, spin-offs or any other structural reorganization can be carried out without fiscal penalties.

The fixed rate of personal income tax for the first six years is 24% on all income up to €600,000, and 47% on income over €600,000 if the expatriate has not resided in Spain during the ten tax periods prior to their transfer. to the country, in which case, the income from savings obtained abroad is not taxed in Spain.
